We visited Magnetic Island on a glorious sunny day in February 2014.
Leaving home early, we drove to Townsville to catch the 7 am ferry. The 40 minute crossing, landing in Nelly Bay, was very calm and the sea was like a mill pond. It definitely was not the rush hour as we were the only travellers on the top deck. There were a few passengers below, but it felt like we were on our own personal ferry.
We explored the main areas of the island which are Horseshoe Bay, Arcadia Bay, Nellie Bay, Picnic Bay and West Point.
The highlights of the day were our two hour walk to see the World War II fortification with its panoramic views, our well-earned picnic lunch and the time we spent exploring the pristine deserted beaches.
We have included a short video, to give you an idea of what jewels the island has to offer.
Sadly, time just slipped away and it was time to take the return journey home. On our return visit to the island, we will be more adventurous, and possibly try sailing or kayaking around the coastline.
Until next time, bye for now.
