Claire and her friends Howe and Bethan arrived to stay with us on Thursday 13th September 2012. They are on a 3 month world tour so we were delighted that they took time out to visit us.
On Friday, we went to Ayr to see the local shops and catch up on the laundry. Howe and Bethan went for a manicure and an unexpected tour of the area when they got a bit lost trying to get back to our block.
We had a barbeque for dinner, which Chris had kindly lent us. It was lovely eating under the stars and catching up on news from home.
On Saturday we were up early to go to Millaroo for what I called a rodeo. It is an hours’ drive from us. It is an event where cattle owners and enthusiasts join together for a weekend of camping and competition. It was very strange to see horseback riders queuing for lunch or a beer at the Saloon, or watching the events. Take a look at the photos and you will understand what I mean.
We then travelled to Ravenswood to have a look at the gold mining, plus a drink in one of the local pubs. An added bonus was a colony of flying foxes that were roosting in the trees near the mine.
Our return journey took us along the Flinders Highway and through Woodstock, (not the pop festival town of the hippy era).
We returned home for another Barbie under the stars and a few games of cards. I think they enjoyed the day as much as John and I did.
On the Sunday, the girls packed up and headed south to Airlie Beach. The place seems extremely quiet now but they have left some wonderful memories.
Safe travelling girls, wish we were going with you…….
